It's a great way to keep the audience engaged while we all wait (impatiently) for Episode Two. TWAU is a completely new idea that weaves very well with the interactive aspect of the title.įurther more, this encourages the player to actually play through more than once in order to see what the outcomes are for each decision they make. You could play through it three or four times and each time will play out differently. As such, the replayability of this game is staggering. Each decision you make affects the outcome, and there are several combinations. There are several conversation options, usually four, for each prompt. Obviously, TWAU is a game that is based off decisions you make throughout the storyline. I, personally, didn't come across any glitches or bugs. Though this may make the game feel very linear to some, interactive storytelling is done best in this fashion.īigby can walk around, he can power-walk (Shift is "run," apparently), and you can choose how he interacts with objects by looking at them, touching them, or speaking (say, if there's another person in the room). There are plenty of items in each chapter to interact with, and each item has a purpose or meaning attached to it-so there's no pointless exploring. I found myself fumbling a few times in the first few action sequences, but it wasn't at all difficult or annoying. Rather than just your typical action key, E, you use QWASD to dodge, attack and interact with objects. Much like TWD, this game has quicktime events that can take a little getting used to. I enjoyed the story more than any other aspect of this game, and the it's what's going to keep me for all five episodes. With this plot, every twist and turn is unexpected, new, and fairly unpredictable. The characters are very well translated from their respective fairy tales and have been updated and modernized to fit in to current day New York. TWAU is a completely new idea that weaves very well with the interactive aspect of the title. I feel more than satisfied with TWAU in that regard. I'm ready for something new and unique, something that will leave me wanting to continue the game purely for the story. In my opinion, it's an exhausted plot, though the game itself was entertaining enough. Zombie apocalypse, people struggling to survive, etc. I wasn't a fan of TWD for one main reason-in that particular story, you know most of what's going on. Many fairy tale characters that most people will remember make an appearance at one point or another, and there are plenty of introductions made throughout Episode One. I will tell you that the main character, Bigby, is the game's translation of the Big Bad Wolf. TellTale games is on a big stride here! They hit it with The Walking Dead Season and the follow up The Walking Dead 400 days and they are on another winner with The Wolf Among Us.Because this title relies so heavily on its plot, I won't include any hints or spoilers in this review. However like this game, they are very much adult orientated and there is much harsh language to be had here. They all come from fairy tales, but are nothing like we heard about in the stories which is where this game shines. With that said, The Wolf Among Us on XBox One contains all 5 chapters that include Īlthough the story starts quite brutally, this is amped up as the story progresses, especially when you meet strange fantasy characters like Little Red Riding Hood, the Three Little Pigs and+ Snow White to name a few. It can be quite tricky if you’re not paying attention. A button letter flashes on screen and you have to hit it before the fast timer runs out in order to make a move successful. Given that, the game choices and puzzles are inter sprinkled with some quick time events like fights with dangerous suspects and characters for instance. Puzzles in the game are simple enough but there will be a few challenges later down the track. It starts out a bit slow and starts to build up like any good story should. The adventure in The Wolf Among Us is a who done it kind of mystery with some added suspense that works on all levels. As with previous games of this type game of interactive story, choices made are remembered from characters interacted with again later that really dictates how the story will play out. The main protagonist of the story is Bigby Wolf THE big bad wolf as players go on an adventure as the Sherriff of the fairy tale folk living amongst us all.
#THE WOLF AMONG US GAME REVIEW SERIES#
The Wolf Among Us is also an adaptation of the Comic series Fables from DC Comics/Vertigo. TellTale games finally brings us their interactive story, The Wolf Among Us to XBox One (Reviewed) and the PlayStation 4 which in our opinion is the perfect format for these games.
